Times Square Pigeons Face Their Competition

Published by jessburke at 11:21 pm under 1 Edit This

The worst thing about going to work in Times Square in New York everyday was the vital chore of dodging street rats, aka Dirty Manhattan Pigeons.

Then again, this one time I saw a fat, mud-soaked pigeon totally freak out at the approach of an on-coming tourist crowd and slam head-on into a gape-mouthed, wide-eyed tourist. That moment of pausing and watching as he spun, completely dazed, in a half a dozen circles until coming to a stop and screaming like a girl, just completely made my year in Manhattan a worthwhile one.

Anyways, I WANT THOSE PIGEONS BACK if it means I can substitute them for all the creepy crawlers I’ve found so far in Miami.

Today, I discovered hundreds of tiny, clear-white spiders swarming across a bookshelf in my apartment. I immediately went into OCD mode.

I scrubbed the kitchen, mopped the floors, shampooed my dog and finally attacked the bookshelf with a toxic dose of 409, Clorox wipes, and orange spray. (Yes, I cleaned. I know one reader of this blog who is probably shedding happy tears at this thought)

Unfortunately, when I Googled this spider thing,  I found out they’re completely common in Miami. Since they don’t bite and Floridians are just so damn laid back, no one has ever invented a poison to kill them. It was simply suggested that you learn to live with them because they are un-stoppable.

I might hyperventilate.

ALSOOO, I found out what that creepy monster sand-creature was that I freaked about in this post: http://pinkberrybug.today.com/2009/06/10/im-not-allowed-to-cross-the-street-alone/

It’s called the Blue Land Crab and they will seriously eff up your car tires if you run over them. Basically, just like every other creepy thing in this city, They are indestructable.

And here’s what they look like:landcrabbest.jpg

And YAY They come in all brightly assorted colors!

I will now resort to staring out my window at the coastline and repeating my mantra: “It’s Miami, and Miami is Awesome”, until the bad thoughts float away.
